Kids Taekwondo in Leesburg & Berryville, VA
A first step toward confidence, coordination, and a new skill. USTMA welcomes children from age 3 in Leesburg and age 5 in Berryville. Start with a free evaluation class that begins a full free week.
Find the right starting class for your child
Your child does not need previous martial arts experience to ask about starting Taekwondo. Tell the academy their age and whether they have trained before, and discuss the right class with an instructor. Leesburg welcomes children from age 3; Berryville starts at age 5. A child who is new to a group activity may have different questions from one returning to martial arts. The first visit is a chance to talk about both.
What children practice
Taekwondo introduces students to movement, kicking techniques, forms, and the habits of a structured class. Following instructions, practicing a sequence, and trying a movement again give children concrete tasks to work on. Progress takes practice and differs from student to student. Ask the instructor what beginners will practice and how classes are grouped. If your child is interested in sparring or competition, ask about the requirements before assuming those activities are part of their first class.
Use the free week to see how the class feels
The Free Evaluation Class begins a full free week of Taekwondo. Meet the team, see the academy, and ask questions before deciding about enrollment. Submit the inquiry below with your preferred location and student age. The team will call to confirm the first lesson; submitting a request does not reserve a particular class time. Our first-visit guide explains what to wear and bring.
Questions worth asking before enrolling
Ask which weekly classes fit your child’s age and experience, what the current tuition covers, and whether uniforms, equipment, or testing have separate costs. Discuss any enrollment term and cancellation policy before signing up. If transportation is the main challenge, ask about after-school care separately: it has its own pickup coverage, hours, fees, and availability. It is not included in the free Taekwondo week.
Help your child get comfortable
Before visiting, let your child know they will meet an instructor and try something new. After class, ask what they enjoyed and what they wanted help with. Bring specific questions to the instructor rather than expecting a change in confidence or behavior on a fixed timetable. The purpose of the first week is to understand the program and decide whether it fits your family.
